Every VCSE organisation is unique, and trustee boards have different needs at different times. To best support this Better Boards is now more flexible and tailored to individual need.
Better Boards services include open and in-house training courses, the HCF In-house training programme (our intensive trustee board support package), a Board meeting observation service, 1:1 advice and guidance and the Annual Hertfordshire Trustees’ Conference.-

Open governance training courses
Looking to upskill or improve your knowledge?
We offer online training courses on a range of topics relevant to trustees with all levels of experience. Our ‘Being a Charity Trustee’ and ‘Safeguarding for Trustees’ courses run termly, in addition to our one-off courses designed specifically for trustees on on topics such as fundraising, digital skills and risk management.

All bespoke Better Boards services start with a conversation with an expert Better Boards advisor. You will discuss your organisation and trustee board, its current situation and where you would like to be in the future.
From here your Better Boards Advisor will put together a programme chosen from the following elements to support the development of your board.
Board empowerment programme
Does your board need support to become more effective? Are you a new organisation needing to establish an effective board?
Ten hours of bespoke consultancy and training with an expert Better Boards advisor to support the ongoing development of your whole trustee board and senior management.
Includes 1:1 guidance sessions for the Chair and CEO in addition to the following training delivered online or in-person: ‘Good governance’ workshop, two ‘Bitesize training’ modules and ‘Safeguarding adults at risk for trustees’.
Good governance workshop
What does good governance mean to your trustee board?
This 3-hour workshop focusses on the Charity Governance Code - what is in the code, why it is important and how it can be integrated into the work of your trustee board.
Bitesize modules
Are your board meetings effective? Do you have clear strategic plan? Is your board diverse?
We offer 1.5 hour in-house training courses on a range of specialist topics, online or in-person, to your whole trustee board. Choose from our comprehensive list of training topics, or contact us to arrange a bespoke session.

Annual Hertfordshire Trustees Conference
Our annual celebration of trustees in Hertfordshire.
The annual event is a chance to hear from incredible speakers, take part in interactive workshops and network with other trustees. Delivered in partnership between HCF Training & Development, GoVolHerts and Community Help Hertfordshire.
