This online course is for those working within an organisation that relies on personal data processing within their service offering. This includes details shared verbally with staff or volunteers, paperwork records and forms, and digital records held in computer systems or online platforms such as email providers and databases.

  • Understand how to apply basic data handling security and privacy principles in your everyday work

  • Gain a brief overview of data protection law and the obligations this places on organisations that process people’s personal data

Learning outcomes

By the end of the this course you will be able to:

  • Have a basic grasp of why information security is important, and the various common risks that arise through poor data handling in everyday business operations

  • Know how to apply basic best practices to your data processing, developing a risk evaluation mindset to everyday privacy safety and security as part of your role

  • Understand the broader implications for businesses and employees as a result of poor data handling, and how organisations and individuals may be held to account
